Extension of date for the SIS Fellowship Award for the Year 2017 nominations

 

The Society for Information Science (SIS) awards SIS Fellowship every year to honor and recognize outstanding contributions in the area of information science and technology, and Young Information Scientist Award (instituted in 1989 in the memory of Late Shri A.S. Raizada, eminent information scientist and founder Secretary of SIS).

Nominations are invited for the SIS Fellowship and the Young Information Scientist Awards for the year 2017. Nominations can be made by the Professors, Heads of the Departments, Institutional Heads, Heads of Libraries, SIS Fellows, and Members of SIS.

Self-nominations or nominations without bio-data will not be considered.

In the case of Young Information Scientist Award, the age of the nominee should not be more than 35 years as on 31st Dec., 2017.

Nominations should reach to the Joint Secretary, SIS by 30th September, 2018, along with signed hard copies with complete bio-data of the nominee, including his/her contributions to the field specifically to the area of Information Science.

Seminar on "Indian Library and Information Science Journals: Problem & Prospects"

To commemorate 100 years of Indian library and information science journals and 60 years of Annals of Library and Information Studies published by CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (CSIR-NISCAIR), a seminar on ‘Indian Library and Information Science Journals: Problem & Prospects” was organised by CSIR-NISCAIR IN ASSOCIATION WITH SOCIETY FOR INFORMATION SCIENCE on 23 April 2014 AT CSIR NISCAIR NEW DELHI-110067.

 Recommendations of the seminar:

  1. Indian LIS journal editors should work towards improving the quality and visibility of the journals.
  2. Journal editors may look at including non-English language or Indian language papers in the journals. 
  3. Editorial Boards of journals should play a meaningful and active role. Journal editors should strive to bring out the journals on schedule. 
  4. The journal editors  may explore the possibility of open peer review system.
  5. The journal editors  may explore the possibility of open peer review system
  6. To have coordination among the journal editors, an Indian LIS Journals Editors Guild may be formed.
  7. There should be  incentives to reviewers (payments or as API points) so that the review process is expedited in a faster manner. 
  8. There should be author workshops to encourage and motivate young authors. 
  9. Scholarly writing skills should be inculcated to students as part of the MLIS programme. 
  10. There is a need for specialized journals in LIS. 
  11. There should be FAQ pages on journal websites that answers general author queries. 
  12. Journals should indicate timelines in papers and strive to maintain publishing papers based on date of receipt of articles.

SIS (Society for information Science) is happy to announce that the Society for Information Science (SIS) in association with CSIR-URDIP is organizing the next conference (SIS 2011-12) on Patinformatics from 19 -21 March 2012 at Pune.

 
The theme of the Conference will be 'Patinformatics for Research and Business Planning'
On March 19th the conference will begin by a number of workshops on tools and techniques on Patinformatics. on the second day i.e. on 20th March, there will be presentations by the experts on the topic of Patinformatics for Research Planning focusing on landscaping, white space mapping, product development, technology foresight, patentability studies, etc. and on 21st, we will focus will be on Patinformatics for Business Planning covering competitive intelligence, business diversification, mergers & acquisitions, freedom to operate and related subjects.
