SIS- CSIR Training programme

SIS- CSIR Training programme on ‘Crafting Effective S&T Communication’ held from 7- 9 April, 2010 at HRDC, Ghaziabad..... A Report.

 

A training programme on “Crafting Effective S&T Communication” was organised from 7- 9 April 2010 at HRDC, Ghaziabad. The programme was organised in association with Society for Information Science. Twenty seven scientists & Technical Officers from various CSIR institutions attended the programme. Dr. Naresh Kumar, Head, HRDC and President, SIS welcomed the participants and members of the SIS. In his inaugural speech he highlighted the achievements of HRDC and gave a brief background of SIS activities.

 

The faculty comprised Dr. K. Satyanarayana, Senior Deputy Director-General, ICMR, Dr. B C Sharma, Former Scientist, NISCAIR, Prof. Y K Gupta, AIIMS, Dr. Manoj Pateriya, Director, NCSTC, Dr. Biman Basu, Former Scientist, NISCAIR, Dr. N N Merotra, CDRI, Dr. A L Moorthy, Director, DESIDOC, Dr. Naresh Kumar, Head, HRDC and Dr. Manu Saxena, Scientist, HRDC.

 

The programme primarily focused on various aspects of scientific writing including ways to write and publish papers, popular science writing, language and style in science writing etc. The programme also covered other aspects of S&T communication such as effective technical presentation, relevance of ethical issues in S&T publications, importance of the impact factor of journals and h-index.

 

Some special sessions were also conducted on Impact of “Open Access Resource on S & T”, “Vigan Lekhan in Hindi”, “Review Process of Research Communication” and “Science Communication Scenario in India”

 

The group tasks exercises and discussions were lively and benefited the participants. The programme was well received and highly appreciated by the participants. The programme ended with the distribution of the certificate of participation to the participants.
